PSNZ Update – November 2021

As mentioned in the recent Camera Talk, the PSNZ Council has recently created a Councillor for Clubs Liaison role, designed specifically to be the go-to person for affiliated clubs to communicate with, about PSNZ affairs. They’ve asked for each club to nominate a member to be the contact for that club, and we’re very lucky that Judith Swan has agreed to take on this role. Her first update is as follows:

Photo walks and field trips

Field trips and photo walks are a great way for us all to stay in contact with each other, so while we’re still under some Covid restrictions, we’ll try to make sure we plan these regularly. Hopefully all members have received my recent email with details of our upcoming trip out to the lovely Maple Glen gardens this month, as well as our annual photo scavenger hunt in December. Try to get along to one or both of these if you’re missing DPS contact 🙂

We had a really good turn out for photo walk around the wharf area last weekend – here’s the slideshow in case anyone missed the meeting.

Looking through Chiharu Shiota’s ‘The Web of Time’ – Nicola Pye

It was decided at our last Council meeting that we’ll keep using Zoom for our meetings for the rest of the year, regardless of any possible Covid level changes. The underlying reason for this decision is to protect the health of all members, and the issue of vaccination requirements is key. While the Council strongly supports vaccination, any decision around vaccination requirements will likely need to come first from the government and from the Maryhill church where we meet. In the meantime, we’ll carry on as we have been, with meetings over Zoom, and field trips or photo walks in areas where we can socially distance as needed (at least as long as we’re at level 2 or better). Fingers crossed things will be closer to normal when we return next year!

Projected Image of the Month 2: Open, September 2021

The poor old Prints of the Month have had a very scarce year, but the Projected Images are flourishing! Thanks very much to Gary McClintock for his recent appraisals, and congratulations to Judith Swan, Stephanie Forrester and Trevor Douglas.

As most of our members will know, after we’ve run an exhibition, a field trip, a photo walk, or a big trip away, we usually gather images from those who participated to make a slideshow. Although we haven’t had many trips over the last year or two, we’re still collecting the slideshows, and you can view them any time, along with our seasonal and Festival exhibitions on our YouTube channel. Focus Groups: Projects and Sets Photo-a-day challenge

Earlier this month, the Projects and Sets focus group ran a 15 day ‘Photo a day challenge’, which was fantastic practice for the current lockdown 😲 The only criteria was that the photo should be taken on the day it was posted – no other limits. About 11 people took part, and it’s certainly spurred many of us on to keep creating. Thanks very much to David Steer for running it all, and Ferg Campbell for being star commenter! A bit of a disappointing ending to last month with Covid rearing its ugly head again, but hopefully we can slowly start emerging from lockdown very soon. In the meantime, a reminder that we’ll be running ALL DPS activities online until we’re back at Level 1, just to be on the safe side. This means that some activities may need to be cancelled or postponed, and all club meetings will be held on Zoom until then – keep an eye on government announcements if you’re not sure where we’re at 🙂 Covid Alert Levels and Updates
