What’s On: March 2022

The old Rialto by Nicola Pye

Last week the Council decided we’ll continue with online meetings up until the end of May, then re-assess month by month as we see how things are going. Field trips and photo walks will still be an option, for a bit of safer in-person socialising, and this month the Street group will be organising our activity – details to follow!

Tentative Workshop Programme 2022

Notes

  • Attendees must be fully vaccinated and have a valid vaccine pass.
  • Previously PSNZ have subsidised the workshop series, this practice is stopping. Hence workshops are more expensive than previous years, but will still be cheaper than attending directly with the presenters.

The workshop programme kicks off from May. Registrations will likely open in March. All workshops are tentative and depend on the evolving COVID-19 situation.

  • Astro – Tekapo – Joseph Pooley – 27-28 May
May be residential and include accommodation
  • Landscape – Queenstown – Meghan Maloney – 15-15 July
Will be residential (include accommodation) and will include transport to the shooting locations.
  • Astro – New Plymouth – Leith Robertson – 23-24 July
  • Street / Urban – Wellington – Helen Westerbeke – 5-6 August
  • Creative Portrait – Tauranga – Karoline Ferbei – 1-2 October
  • Landscape for Novice and first time workshop attendees – Buller / West Coast – Graham Dainty – 22-24 October

Possibly also South Island workshops for bird, and studio portrait or natural light portrait.

Judge Training Weekends 2022

A number of Judge Training Weekends are being planned for later in the year. More information is available at Judge Training. These are, of course, dependent on the COVID-19 situation but should be able to operate under the current red settings.

  • Orewa – 18-19 July – Hibiscus Coast Camera Club
  • Taupo – July – More details to come
  • Christchurch – September – More details to come
  • Dunedin – October – More details to come

Judge Training weekends will require full vaccination and valid vaccine passes.

A big Red update!

So announcing we’ll be back to face-to-face meetings earlier this week may have been slightly premature! Now that we’re at Red, we’ll continue on with all meetings via Zoom, until we return to Orange. We should still be able to run some photo walks and field trips, in accordance with Covid regulations, so as always, keep an eye on your emails! And thanks to Melanie Dick for sorting our cute Covid icons so speedily once again!

Welcome to 2022 with DPS!

Ngā mihi o te tau hou! Greetings for the new year! Once again, things are looking like they won’t be back to normal for a little while yet, but we’ve got an excellent programme planned for the year and our trusty Zoom as back-up if things get nasty again. In the meantime, Council has met to discuss how we can keep our members as safe as possible, while also protecting the venue we use, and the other people who also use it. As you’ll know from Gary’s recent email, it has been decided that while we are at Orange, it will be a requirement that anyone attending our meetings at Mornington must have a valid Vaccine Pass and must wear a mask, unless they have an exemption. Although masks are not a legal requirement for our meetings at Orange, we feel it’s important that we err on the side of caution in regards to the safety of our more vulnerable members.

Keep an eye on your emails and on the programme for any changes, and don’t forget our Zoom link here.

Annual Scavenger Hunt Photo Walk

Christmas by Melanie Dick

This weekend, we finally managed to run our annual photo scavenger hunt, after postponing due to threatened bad weather (that never eventuated), then changing our venue at the last minute due to some semi-bad weather…but luckily we had an excellent turnout of members. Even though I greedily demanded a very quick turn-around of images, so we could fit the slideshow into the last meeting of the year, I received a whopping 108 photos, making this the longest photo walk/field trip slideshow of the year – it’s so long, I had to find three totally irrelevant songs to accompany it!

The themes were:

SummerNewSurprising
SmallChildishCovid
PurpleGlassLeaf
Christmas

Thanks to everyone who submitted their images so quickly!
